WHAT
IS CONCILIATION We
have received a number of questions on the conciliation process and the
following is a brief explanation which we hope will assist you in understanding
the process. When
the Employer and the bargaining agent (the Union)
require assistance to reach an agreement, either side can ask the
Ministry of Labour to appoint a conciliator. The
conciliator does not work for either of the parties, but for the Ministry.
The role of the conciliation officer and of the Ministry is to assist the
parties to reach a deal. This
process in which the bargaining team, the Employer and the conciliator work
towards a settlement is called conciliation. Thank
you for your questions and we will keep you updated throughout the process. Your
Bargaining Team!
